Free Movie Downloads Wil Be Risky For Your Computer

By Charmaine Chan

The internet is full of websites that offer free movie downloads, and yes - it's true you can find just about any movie you want if you look long enough. They can range from cute rated "G" flicks to those you wouldn't want to watch with your grandparents. But you have to be careful - especially these days - in looking for sites that offer the latest and greatest at no cost to you. Sometimes "something for nothing" is nothing you want. So here are a few tips to keep in mind when web surfing, that could save you from experiencing "computer home theater" regret:

Make sure the movies are really free - Nothing is more annoying than going through pages of sites advertising film download giveaways, finally finding one and then wasting more time on a five page "free membership" form - only to find out it will cost you, just like anything else. "Free" in this case means you get a "free seven day trial" movie membership, but not until you pay for three months of membership in advance. To say this is highly irritating, is sugar-coating it.

An easy way to cut down on wasted hours hitting brick walls is to be specific in your keyword selection. Typing in "One hundred percent, no obligation EVER free movie downloads", when looking for the free sites, should turn up the existing few that actually give a person something for nothing.

Expect the unexpected to trip you up - Sometimes the most frustrating part isn't finding a website that makes good on its "free" promises, but in locating an actual live download link that will give you the movie you've selected, once you're there. Broken links, offers for paid membership upgrades, and page unavailability are just some of the snafus you may come across when trying to access your free film.

Know the basics about your operating system - When you do locate a live link to your movie download, you may then be asked to pick the one that corresponds with the operating system your computer is using. It's wise to know at least the name of your OS program, so you don't accidentally choose a download with data your computer can't read that will cause you to miss your movie - and may even crash your system.

Always download information from the internet onto a flash drive - As you know, one must be extra careful these days with all the things that can contaminate a system. This is especially true for those whose computers lack an on-the-spot- virus program that removes threats as they come up.

If you don't have a flash drive, or access to one, then at least save any downloads to a file folder on your computer's hard drive - and don't open it until it's been scanned for problems.

When you find those sites offering free movie downloads, be aware that they don't always mean "free" in the literal sense. Many an internet surfer has jumped to accept something they thought would cost them nothing, only to find out that they'd be paying for it in more ways than one, somewhere down the road.
